We have no intellectuals, so said Ambedkar
Please allow me to jump to conclusions on one more count. And that is about the pathetic dependence of the Indian scholars on foreign sources, both in terms of knowing and methods of knowing. This happens because of their copycat character.
In this sense, they are less of intellectuals and more of pen drives. Put differently, they are good at COGNITIVE (storage) level of knowledge but inherently poor at INNOVATION and COMMUNICATION.
This was best summed up by Ambedkar in 1935 when he said that either we don't have intellectuals or if we have they are dishonest and cowardly.
This was later reiterated by the Mexican Nobel laureate Paz who as ambassador to India couldn't fail to notice that the Indian elite is matchless in copycating globally!
